SUNY Upstate Medical Center is starting new master’s program for educating psychiatric family nurse practitioners. Lack of good faculty and a severe shortage of mental health services are affecting patients in their regular treatment. New York is facing severe shortage of nurses.
Approval was given by the State Education Department in 2008 and Upstate is reporting 50 mental health clinics in 17 countries which stretched from Pennsylvania to Canada, from Rochester to Utica. This was the information given by Carol Gavan who is the associate dean as well as UUP nursing faculty member. Shortage of psychologists, psychiatrists and nurse practitioners is creating confusion and chaos of everyone’s life.
