With so much talk about the nursing shortage, it's hard to keep your head up high. However, California has delivered some great news that all nurses should be aware about. There is a new study that found that California residents are becoming nurses at a much greater rate due to government initiatives.
The Labor and Workforce Development Agency project that California is about to graduate over 10,300 registered nurses this year alone, which is almost a 70 percent increase from last year.
The study states the this increase in registered nursing graduates is due to Schwarzenegger's California Nurse Education Initiative to expand nursing programs. Most of this was done through community colleges where about 70 percent of these nurses are graduating from.
This is great news to see that state initiatives do help in reducing the nursing shortage. California is definitely not out of the shortage just yet, but this goes a long way and gives promise to the health care community as well as thousands of people out there who are looking to become nurses. Let's hope we see more reports form other states with the same positive result.
