Nursing programs have been popping up everywhere it seems. Thanks to a growing awareness of the nursing shortage, individual states have taken great initiatives to jump start the nursing community. As many nurses know, the bottle neck is with the education programs who cannot accept the amount of qualified applicants they receive.
Texas State University System Board of Regents recently approved a nursing programs that will officially create the School of Nursing for Texas State. It will begin to admit the first round of students in 2010. It will be located in the Round Rock Higher Education Center.
While it still needs final approval from the Texas Board of Nursing, everyone is very pleased with the outcome and have full faith the nursing program will be approved.
The nursing program itself will have a 130 semester credit hours requirement. This includes 47 of general education, 18 hours of general education, and 65 hours of nursing classes. There will also be hands on activities for the nurses thanks to partnerships with hospitals and other health care related facilities.
This is a great move for Texas and the entire country. Let's hope we see more initiatives like this around the country.
